Looking for something different to do this fall with your Scouts?  Join us on Saturday, October 4, 2025 in Burlington, WI.

This is a special Clue game this year.  The United States will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the country next year, and the year-long celebration began on Memorial Day.  It is also the 190th anniversary of the City of Burlington.  So we are going to celebrate.  The clues will lead you to a person in our history, what they are noted for, what year it occurred, and two items related to the person or event.  As you eliminate options, you will discover a piece of American history.  Not all businesses are able to have an activity for the teams.  They will be handing out trivia cards.  At the end of the day each team will have a brief history of the city of Burlington.

When:  Saturday, October 4, 2025

Times:  10 AM to 3:30 PM   Registration will open at 9 AM so we can scatter the teams across the game area.

Where:  Clue will be played in downtown Burlington.  Check in/out will be in the basement of the Burlington Public Library (166 E. Jefferson St., Burlington WI (lower level).  Parking can be found downtown in the parking structure, located on Dodge and Washington.

What does the cost cover?  The $10 fee for each participant (including adults) covers a patch and the cost of activities. IT DOES NOT INCLUDE LUNCH.  There are no refunds, but moneys paid can be applied to another person.

Teams:  6-8 youth with several parents make a TEAM.  Each team will stay together throughout the day, playing the game as a team.  There can be no more than 10 people on a team (youth and adults total).   All teams must have at least 2 adults present per the Guide to Safe Scouting.

Basics:  Teams will walk from business to business.  (cars can only be used for handicapped Scouts/parents) Each business will do a short ACTIVITY with the team.  It should be about 5 minutes, no longer than 10 minutes.  The activity could teach the teams about their business, be a Scout skill, or just something fun to do.  They will then give the team a clue to solve the case.

Adults must go into the businesses with the youth.  Youth should not be without adult supervision at any time. Adults are encouraged to join in the activities and be a kid for the day.

After the activity is completed, the business will give the team, based on the team number, an envelope which will contain a CLUE to help them solve the mystery. The name of the business (location/item lost) and the name on the clue gets crossed off your master sheet until you have only 1 item lost, 1 person who found it, 1 location it was last seen, and 1 time it was found left.  If your clue says “CLUE”, the location you received it from is the location/person in your answer.  The teams must visit every business to solve the mystery.  Without all the clues, you cannot solve the mystery.  Each team will get different clues and have a different solution to the Case of the Missing Gear.  Asking another team for a clue will not help you solve yours.

Since most teams will be able to solve the mystery, we have a secondary Scavenger Hunt.  It is not an easy one, so watch closely in the play area while going from business to business.  The number of correct answers will be used as a tie-breaker for awarding prizes. A number of reenactors will be wandering through downtown.  If a team approaches and talks to them, they will give you a card worth extra points.  These get turned in at check out.

We have it timed out to take about 4-½ hours to complete.  All teams should be able to complete the game and get the answer.

You must check out and turn in your Clue Sheet, and Scavenger Hunt at the end of the event.   You will then get your patch.  Winners will be announced after the event via email to the team contact representative.  Prizes will be awarded at the December roundtables.

The check in/check out location is the basement of the library.  Parking will be in the parking structure on the corner of Dodge and Washington.  We will have signs directing you to it as you come in to Burlington via Hwy. 36, Hwy. 142, and Hwy. 11/Cty. Hwy. E.

We will NOT be offering lunch, but there are a number of places to eat.  There is a McDonalds, Flippy’s (a hamburger shop), Super Tacos, a Chinese restaurant, and several other eateries.  You can also bring a bag lunch the day if you wish.  Tables are located in the park in the center of the area.  (corner of Chestnut and Pine).  Even though several of the restaurants offer alcoholic beverages, this is a Scouting activity and alcohol is not to be consumed.

No refunds will be given.  Registrations paid can be used for another Scout.

Since Scouting is a family activity, this event is open to everyone.  Anyone over the age of 4 must pay the registration fee.  Children under 4 will not be turned away, but they cannot take part in the activities or receive a patch.  Extra patches can be purchased for $2 after the event.  Some businesses are very small, and strollers will not be able to fit in their stores.  They will have to be left outside during the activities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sandra Martens, chairman of the event.  Phone number is 262-902-6569 and email is SandyOwl1@gmail.com.
