Every other year, a special opportunity presents itself to the youth and adults participating in and advising the Law Enforcement Explorer programs from all around the state of Wisconsin - The Wisconsin Police Explorer Academy. The week-long program takes place at Volk Field at Camp Douglas. While there, the youth participate in a program meant to give them the experience of a real-world Police Academy. Starting from morning physical training before breakfast, to classroom lessons on proper investigating and room-searching techniques in the afternoon, to practicing traffic stops in the evening, the youth experience the full range of what it means to become a Law Enforcement Officer. The Academy offers three levels of program for young or beginning Explorers, a group for Explorers of intermediate experience and a level for experienced Explorers who are almost ready to apply for jobs at Law Enforcement Agencies around the state. The week culminated in a mock interview process where the most experienced of the Explorers were given the opportunity to do a practice interview in front of a panel of Law enforcement officials from around the State. |
