Fox River District Klondike Derby

The Klondike Derby is a Scout event based on the historic Klondike gold rush in the Yukon Territory when gold was discovered there in August of 1896. Because of the remote location and the fact that the rush started in the fall and into the winter of 1896, prospectors and fortune seekers faced great challenges just getting to the gold fields. It is in the tradition of these hardships and challenges that each winter Boy Scout Troops across the country take part in their own Klondike Derby.

This year, the Fox River District will tip our hat to the origins of our Klondike Derby.  Patrols will be directed to 4 “towns,” each town having its own challenges. There will be 3 - 4 events at each town. These events will range from our traditional events, such as fire starting and first aid, with some new challenges for this year. The events will challenge the patrols to work together as a team and practice their Scout skills. There will be several team work / problem solving events that will challenge the patrol to work together to complete the event.
