Scouting for Food has a long tradition in Three Harbors Council and is one of the many highlights of the Scouting year for our Scouts and the communities we serve. In March, the Council made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Scouting for Food Campaign, anticipating that we would be able to carry out the campaign sometime later in 2020.
Unfortunately, due to continued challenges with COVID-19 and, in consultation with Feeding America, we have determined that the responsible course of action for this year is to cancel the 2020 Scouting for Food campaign. Please recycle any Scouting for Food door hangers you may still have as they cannot be reused since they are dated. The Scouting for Food campaign remains vital to the well-being of all the communities we serve. Individual units are welcome to conduct a campaign on their own this fall; please make sure to follow local health guidelines and Scouting guidance to maintain the health and safety of all participants.
We are truly disappointed to have to make this difficult decision, but we are beginning to plan for the Scouting for Food campaign to resume in the spring of 2021. It’s likely that there will be some changes to the campaign to address key health and safety concerns as well as other facets of the campaign itself. Our goal is to have the plan for our 2021 Scouting for Food campaign prepared to rollout to you this coming January.
Finally, we have enjoyed a great partnership with Snyder Trucking to help with transporting the food we collect. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we no longer have that relationship and are actively looking at other options to help us with food transport. If you have any contacts in the local trucking industry that can help support this campaign, please contact Nathan Rackers, Scouting for Food Staff Advisor, at Nathan.Rackers@Scouting.org.
Thank you for all you do to support a safe Scouting experience within the Three Harbors Council.
