SEA SCOUT MARKSMANSHIP AWARDS

PROGRAM

Registered Sea Scouts will have the opportunity to work on the Sea Scout Marksmanship Award in Rifle and/or Shotgun.  These are skill-based awards with a performance requirement and, therefore, participation in this event does not guarantee completion of the requirements for the Sea Scout Marksmanship Award.  For more information and for a listing of award requirements, please click here. Rifle Range:  The Rifle Range will be open from 8am to 12pm and then again from 1pm to 5pm for shooting (limited to 100 total participants).  Each participant will fire five groups (3 shots per group) and can then return to line for next available.

Shotgun Range:  The Shotgun Range will be open from 8am to 12pm and then again from 1pm to 5pm.  Shotgun participants will be scheduled for 30-minute sessions.  Each 30-minute session includes brief one-on-one instruction (depending on participant’s skill level) and 25 clay targets.  Depending on the number of registered participants, Shotgun participants may have the option to add an additional 30-minute session for an additional cost of $10 each (to cover the cost of clay targets) (subject to availability).  We will announce whether any additional Shotgun sessions are available on the Saturday morning of the event weekend.

Sea Scout Activity Midway:  Practice and develop your aquatic skills before we get back out on the water for the season with a series of activity stations.  Some of these activities will help Sea Scouts prepare for their rank advancement requirements, but they will be equally fun for non-Sea Scouts!  Here you will also have the opportunity to chat with other Sea Scouts (including our Area Quarterdeck Officers) and adult leaders to discuss any questions you might have on advancement, recruiting, or joining a Sea Scout Ship.

Pre-Event Online Instruction/Activities:  We anticipate providing an optional online portion of this event in the weeks prior to May 15th including instruction, shooting sports orientation, and/or activities.  Additional information will be provided as these plans are finalized.

OVERNIGHT ACCOMODATIONS

Although this is only a one-day event, overnight tent camping is available at Indian Mound Scout Reservation on Friday and/or Saturday night for event participants at no additional cost (you must provide your own tents, etc.).  Please indicate when registering whether your unit will be camping overnight.

MEALS

REGISTRATION

An individually-prepared boxed lunch will be served to each participant on Saturday.  Each Ship/Crew/Troop is responsible for making their own arrangements for any other meals (e.g., breakfast on Saturday and/or Sunday, dinner on Friday and/or Saturday).  If your Ship/Crew/Troop would like to bring camp-style cooking equipment to prepare your own meals, there will be space available to use this equipment at Indian Mound Scout Reservation.  Alternatively, there are several nearby restaurants in the area.
This event is open to Ships, Crews, and Troops, but only to participants age 14 and older.  Ships/Crews/Troops must register as a group and include at least two adults over the age of 21 (as per BSA youth protection rules).  Participants are not able to register as individuals.  However, if you would like to participate, but your Ship/Crew/Troop is unable to attend, please contact us and we can try to help you find another unit to attend with.

All registrations must be submitted and paid online by April 30, 2021.  No additional registrations will be allowed after April 30th.

Also, the shooting activity “add-ons” will be limited to 100 participants for rifle shooting and 30 scheduled sessions for shotgun shooting.  Registration for these “add-ons” will close as these limits are reached.

CANCELLATION/REFUNDS

PANDEMIC SAFETY PLAN

PANDEMIC CONTINGENCY PLAN

Cancellation requests received before April 30, 2021 will be processed with a partial refund of all fees paid less $5 per participant (to cover administrative costs).  For any cancellation requests received after April 30, 2021, partial refunds are not available as a matter of course, but might be available on a case-by-case determination.      As the situation regarding the ongoing pandemic continues to evolve, it is difficult to know for certain what safety precautions will be necessary in May.  Accordingly, more information regarding screening procedures and additional safety precautions will be announced as we get closer to the date of this event.  We will be following whatever procedures, guidelines, and safety procedures are in place for Three Harbors Council and Indian Mound Scout Reservation at that time.  We anticipate that this will include some form of participant self-screening prior to arriving at this event and each participant having their temperature taken upon arrival.  We also expect that, if anyone in a vehicle has a temperature above a specified threshold upon arrival, then the entire vehicle will be denied entry to Indian Mound Scout Reservation.   As of February 3, 2021, Indian Mound Scout Reservation is open and Three Harbors Council has resumed conducting some outdoor activities.  However, please understand that the circumstances of the ongoing pandemic may change between now and May 15th in ways that could prevent us from being able to conduct this event at Indian Mound Scout Reservation.  If that were to occur, this event would switch to an online format (using Zoom or a similar web conferencing technology) and a partial refund would be automatically provided to registered participants (based on the difference in cost between the planned in-person event and the online alternative).  Details of the online alternative version of the program would be provided in advance and any registered participants that do not wish to participate in the online alternative version of this program would be able to cancel their event registration subject to the conditions noted above.
