Guidelines for District & Council Events - Fall 2020

Starting September 1, 2020, Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta and Indian Mound Scout Reservation will be open for District and Council events with the following safety measures in place:

New Camp Check-In Protocol

  • Each Scout, leader, parent or family member entering camp will be required to submit a COVID-19 health assessment form and COVID-19 waiver upon arrival.
  • Each vehicle entering camp will have the temperatures checked for all person in the vehicle.  If a person in the vehicle does not pass the COVID-19 health assessment, the entire vehicle will be denied entry to the camp property.

Social Distancing & Face Coverings

  • Social distancing safety measures are required for all camp activities.  Any group gatherings such as flag ceremonies or campfire programs should be social distanced by family and/or Scouting unit.
  • Face coverings are required to be worn at camp when around other people.

Camp Facilities

  • For safety reasons, cabins will not be available for rental until at least December 31, 2020.
  • The camp dining halls will also be closed but kitchens are available for approved event volunteers to prepare food.  The food must be served outside the dining hall or in campsites.

Restrooms

  • Camp restroom facilities will be open with enhanced cleaning protocols.
  • Events and activities must assign staff to clean restrooms and high touch surfaces on a regular basis.  This is in addition to regular cleaning by the Camp Rangers.

Tent Camping

  • Scouts and leaders camping overnight must sleep one person per tent.  Only immediate family members can share tents.
  • Large district and council events are encouraged to only camp on Saturday night or to consider day only events.

Camp Attendance Limits

  • To accommodate social distancing, group size will be limited to 50 campers this fall.  Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta can accommodate two separate groups of 50 campers.  At Indian Mound Scout Reservation, three separate groups of 50 campers are permitted if one of the groups is in Camp Lazynski.
  • All groups at camp must remain separated and not interact or share program or tenting areas.

Special Exemptions

  • Two major fall events will be exempt from the capacity limits listed above.
    • Scouting the Zoo – This event will follow the guidance of the Milwaukee County Zoo related to event capacity.  All activities will take place outdoors.
    • Haunted Woods – The annual Haunted Hayride event will be modified into a walking event rather than a hayride and all activities will take place outdoors.
  • Any requests for additional event exemptions, should be submitted for review by the council’s COVID-19 Task Force at least 45 days prior to the event.  Requests can be e-mailed to Wally Smith, Director of Camping Services, at Wally.Smith@Scouting.org.
