It’s been an amazingly busy spring in the Scoutreach program. It started with our Winter Blast on Saturday, February 9th when 40 Scouts, their siblings and parents descended on the Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club on Sherman Blvd for a day of fun in the snow. They participated in human dogsled races, Yukon River crossing adventure, snowshoe carry and a host of other fun skill games. They topped it off by inundating our Supreme Chief of the Fire, the CEO of the Three Harbors Council, Ed Brandon, with about 100,000 snowballs. They finished the day with a meal of hot dogs and a delicious soup dump. A big Thank You goes out to Lamont Williams, James and Lucretia Hightower and the Scouts from Troop 445, and to Doug Reed, Mike Phillips, Lena Stephenson and Jack Feuerstein for helping make this a great day.
On Saturday, April 13th, we had our Scoutreach Pinewood Derby at COA Burleigh/Curtin Center. 50 Scouts along with their families participated. Trophies, patches and race certificates were handed out, followed by a great lunch. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the wonderful volunteers at St. Sebastian’s Pack 231 and Troop 31 for bringing out their Pinewood Derby track, setting it up and running the race about as smoothly as humanly possible. Thank you Lena, Rob, Matt, Mark and your Scouts; your time and effort made the day special!
May 7th brought our In-Town Day Camp to Wilson Park where 25 Scouts participated in soccer, kickball and other sports. In between all the games they made numerous crafts like key holders and bug catchers. The Scouts had a great time in spite of the threatening weather - all under the watchful eye of our great volunteers Myron Thomsen and “Major” James Wagner.
On May 14th, we conducted our Blue and Gold Advancement Ceremony and Banquet with our good partners at Parklawn Assembly of God and Christian Academy. Almost 50 Scouts representing nearly 2 dozen different programs received awards, patches, Rank Advancements and uniforms from Bobcat thru Scout Rank. Congratulations to all of our youth who have participated and advanced in our program! We would like to Thank Garibaldi’s Chicken Shack for the delicious meal they so kindly donated.
Finally, one last HUGE shout-out to Jim and Lynn Seif and their family (Joey, Allison, Jimmy, Kristen, Anthony and Nathaniel and Casey Chopp). Their constant support and tireless effort help make these events so successful. Also, to Dick Pulanco from Pack 98, for always showing up and doing what’s needed.
THANK YOU To all of my Youth Leaders, the Council leadership and everyone who has helped move the Scoutreach Program forward. We ARE making a Difference!
