Get to Know Our Scout Executive

Andrew Hardin
Three Harbors Council, Boy Scouts of America
Scout Executive/CEO
Milwaukee

Hometown: Auburn, Alabama

Education:  BS in Political Science and History from Presbyterian College, a liberal arts college located in Clinton, South Carolina

What attracted you to this new opportunity?  The first class reputation of Three Harbors Council and the quality of life in southeastern Wisconsin.

Thoughts on your position: I have been a Scout since age eleven when I joined a troop.  I earned the Eagle Scout rank and then worked at Philmont Scout Ranch during college.  I started my career as a District Executive with the Atlanta Area Council right out of college.  Over 18 years and six different positions in the council I worked my way up to Deputy Scout Executive.  I’m very excited about the opportunity to continue my career by serving Three Harbors Council.  This is a great council with dedicated board and volunteers, close relationships with the community and innovative programs.

First job: Paper route delivering the local newspaper as a teenager in my hometown of Auburn, Alabama.

Personal hero: My Scoutmaster in Troop 11 who is also my father!

Last book read: The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell

Person you would most like to meet: Hank Aaron

Family:  My parents both live in Georgia where my father is a retired college professor at the University of Georgia and my mother is a retired United Methodist Church pastor.  My sister and her family live in Chicago.

Favorite vacation spot: The Rocky Mountains

Most meaningful accomplishment: Scouting wise, I’m very proud of the three summers I spent on camp staff at Woodruff Scout Camp in the north Georgia mountains including serving as the Camp Director for over 3,000 Scouts in 2004.  Additionally, as Director of Development, I’m pleased with the success of a $15 million capital campaign we led for major camp improvements at three council camping facilities.  The fundraising campaign led to increased camp attendance and better program and camping facilities for the council’s Scouts.

Favorite film: Braveheart

Favorite Milwaukee-area restaurant: To be determined… Looking forward to trying out many new restaurants!

Likes about Milwaukee:  Milwaukee has a rich history and I look forward to exploring the city and the surrounding communities. I’m a big sports fan so I can’t wait to go to a Bucks game, watch Marquette basketball and visit Miller Park this spring.

What you most like doing in your free time: I enjoy hiking, running, watching college football, and live music.

Are you Wood Badge trained? If so, what patrol? Yes.  Fox Patrol!

Finish this statement: I believe in Scouting because… of what it taught me as a Scout growing up and the impact I have seen the program have on the lives of youth and their adult leaders.
