Catherine E. Bell

I have been a board member of LFL/Three Harbors Council, BSA for almost two years now.  My relationship with LFL is a fulfilling and exciting one that I am happy to be a part of.  We have a common vision on how we can help young people pursue dreams of an excellent education and how to assist them in achieving that goal.  One vision that we share is to collaborate with Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) and the School of Health Sciences to construct an Exploring/Healthcare Careers Club.  Through previous collaboration we decided it would be best to begin small with careers in medical coding and health information technology professions.  MATC offers a Technical Diploma in Medical Coding and we are now offering an Associate Degree in Health Information Technology.  My programs have moved into a new facility on 6th street with several other health science programs, which potentially gives us a better site to possibly have a summer HIT Camp.
As you know, you and I think alike and we both share numerous ideas on what we can do for the LFL program.  I’m looking forward to working with you, the board, and MATC on future projects.

Through the Boy Scouts of America - Three Harbor Council and Exploring for Life has given the Hales Corners Fire Department the ability to change the lives of our youth. When starting the Hales Corners Fire Explorer Post 615 we did not know what to expect. We just want to give the explorers the opportunity to see what we get to do every day. Little did my fellow advisers and I know how our explorers would change our lives forever. It made all of us appreciate our jobs even more. We had the opportunity to work with other local explorer groups to give them the same opportunity our group was able to experience.  Since we have started, we have sent three of our fire explorers to fire fighter 1 class to get certified as fire fighters. Two of our explorers were chosen to be our Fire Departments interns. It was a great first year for our program and we look forward to many more years as a fire explorer post.

Learning For Life continues to provide Hickman Academy an "umbrella" for reaching children in a way that will help them develop as moral, non-bullying, healthy,  ethical and critically thinking children.  Learning for Life efforts go a long way to assist us in introducing, implementing, and assessing Character Education values and concepts.
Thank you for Learning for Life!!!

2013 was the first time I was able to volunteer at Character Camp and it definitely won't be the last.  I was so grateful for having the opportunity to work with the children on their craft projects.  They were so intent on doing a good job and tried very hard to use the positive character traits they were taught.
